We are currently in the BUILD PHASE of training.
In terms of training, this phase is focused on fitness, strength + power, and skills.
Here's a few key details about this phase:
- The Build Phase will have a slightly different feel for the first half vs. second half. The first half is focused on a patient transition out of off-season. We are not in a rush to build fitness: we are focused on building the foundation we need for high performance all season long. This means lots of work around building strength, tissue resilience, and making our technique as powerful, smooth, and efficient as possible. We also incorporate some V02max work to help "raise the ceiling" of endurance capacity. In the second half of the quarter, we will shift focus more towards fitness development, and begin ramping up towards race-readiness while continuing to establish a robust foundation.
- Later in the spring, when we layer on endurance over this phase of training, it will act as a catalyst or turbocharger to accelerate your performance.
- This phase is also focused on building great habits that will support your training success all year long. This includes post-workout fueling, adequate all-day-long hydration, great sleep, and organizational effectiveness.
