Welcome to 2024!
We are currently in the PRIMING PHASE of training (Q2).
In terms of training, this phase is focused on endurance, performance-priming, and applied skills.
Here's a few key details about this phase:
- There will be shift overall in the focus of this phase. We now place more of an emphasis on longer threshold efforts, rather than resilience and short, punchy V02 work.
- There will be an uptick in intensity overall: hold onto your seats, but be ready and willing to adapt and moderate as needed so you can remain successful!
- We bring in more strategic elements around tempo, pacing, and applied race skills to ensure that you understand HOW to manage your effort across a given duration. We also begin to incorporate specific skills like sighting to help sharpen your execution ahead of race season.
- Strength will take a more supportive role for the next several months. We incorporate more dynamic movement and speed, and refine our ability to produce power in controlled settings directly applicable to our endurance sports. This doesn't mean strength is any less important -- it simply changes in tone.
It is critical that you understand how to moderate intensity during this phase of training, and that you do not let the uptick in volume/intensity erode your supporting habits! Sleep, fueling, hydration, stress management, and time management/organizational effectiveness will be key in helping you optimize the results you get from your training.
