I am going to use this Sunday Special as a ‘call to action’ for the upcoming Performance Reset event, which begins this coming Friday and runs through Saturday and finishes Sunday lunchtime. I make this call to action - to the Purple Patch team - not as a door-to-door salesman, but through excitement and authentic belief that this is shaping up to be a really important and inspiring event. I would like to give you some insight into why I feel this way, but before I dive in, a couple of important things I want to let you know this week:
Get set for a transition in training: As we edge toward winter, we are collectively getting set up for a huge transition in focus for the focus in training. Some Purple Patch athletes are lucky enough to be charging toward real racing, others are nearing the final Purple Patch challenge - the big IRONMAN 70.3 - but all of us edge toward a shift in approach and mindset. We will soon begin a block of recuperation, then transition into a preparatory phase of training, that we call postseason (ironic in 2020!). Look for a whole new roadmap, evolution of workout structure, revised lens of 2021 roadmaps and more. The coming weeks are going to be fun for planning and getting ready to reset our lens on performance evolution in 2021. I, and the team, are excited.
Performance Reset toolkit: Many have asked us about how to best approach the event, from a time-management and training event. As much as many of us are locked indoors, it doesn’t mean we all have endless time to embrace a 3-day event. Don’t worry! You don’t need to miss a thing. The whole event is designed to be both interactive and flexible, and while you won’t want to miss a few of the sessions live, every session we broadcast over the weekend is recorded. This means you can go back through the sessions that inspire you the most, or play catch up with sessions you missed, with access unlimited for 60 days post event. Every piece of education is needed and tailored for this specific event (see below). I would take the approach of you diving into an immersive experience, but also receiving a toolkit to help with planning, mindset, habits and motivation to supercharge your attack on 2020.
Why you should jump into Performance Reset: I would like to give you my experience of the last two weeks, much of which I have spent in planning sessions with the various guests and speakers of the Performance Reset event. I have talked before of the eagerness for all to get involved, but the magic and passion has really revealed itself through these discussions For each planning session, we sat in a (zoom) room and brainstormed around the key topics of each guests presentations or panel. We dove into their stories, how they have managed adversity, what drives them, what advice would they provide. Each session was immersive and exhaustive, but emerging from every one of them left me feeling empowered, energized and inspired to take on the world.
The process has been powerful for me as a coach, father, leader and every day human trying to navigate this turbulence. I am excited for the path ahead -- because I accidentally carved a reset of my own in planning this event.
Getting to have conversations with Mark Allen about perspective and resilience, learning from coach Mike O and Eva around joint mobility and strength, been blown away by Sarah Piampiano and Mohamed Lahna’s perspective - all hyping my anticipation for this event. The list goes on and on, with each working session cementing why this is so important for folks - right now! Many of these caught be by surprise:
The journey of Heidi Zak and how Third Love took on Victoria Secret and completely changed how women are portrayed in ad campaigns for underwear.
The journey of Justin Forsett from abject poverty in Alabama to a decade long career in the NFL, followed by becoming the leader of a company driven by the mission to make sport accessible to the most challenged.
The perspective of Matt Hirst on the inescapable fact of aging, yet the power of tackling aging with the right mindset to thrive.
Folks - this is going to be special and so different.
If you haven’t jumped in yet, now is the time. This event goes well beyond finish lines and PRs, and is a chance for you to step into 2021 invigorated, inspired and on a path to success.
I hope you will join me.
Cheers,
Matt
