Here Comes Racing
Folks, here comes race season. We are already celebrating initial personal successes across the globe, with our Aussie friends representing our ‘official’ race kick off in Geelong 70.3. Great performances, including two podiums, is a lovely way to start the year. Well done to Jim Finlay and Elise Windsor-Smith for the podiums, and all the Aussies who competed. As an Englishman, I am inspired that you all swim, bike and run with a ball and chains around your ankles. This weekend the races continue, with Philippines 70.3 and Dubai 70.3 having Purple Patch representation. Our first major US race is the legendary Oceanside 70.3, which should be a cracker.
With all this racing beginning to emerge, particularly our US folks, a reminder to stay patient and to treat these earlier races as welcome opportunities to build race-hardiness and insights into early season form. I wanted to take this opportunity to outline our approach to Course Overviews for the season. We are shifting things up in pursuit of balancing education for the broader athlete world, more exclusive Purple Patch sessions, and individualized race planning for those who need or want it. For long-time athletes, I think you will welcome the evolution, so I thought I would lay it out here. Before I do, a note. It is obviously impossible for us to provide overviews and educational sessions for every race. We have chosen a list of races we can execute well and bring the largest contingents of athletes to. Our mission is to provide education for the most athletes possible. If your key race doesn’t have a specific Purple Patch overview, you can always grab a coach consult and talk through everything with a Purple Patch coach to ensure you are dialed in. For our key races for 2022, there will be four main options:
- PDF Course Overviews. These will be complementary and open to any athlete, Purple Patch or otherwise. We intend to push these out far and wide, as a service to all. These will be complementary and open to any athlete, Purple Patch or otherwise. We intend to push these out far and wide, as a service to all. They will include education from FuelIn, and high value insights for the specific race.
- Purple Patch Race Prep Office Hours. For 2022, we are going to close live course overviews to be only accessible to Purple Patch athletes and adapt them to allow any athlete racing in the upcoming month to gain valuable race specific insights. They will focus on a couple of upcoming races and discussions on race specific strategies for a variety of of courses, terrain, etc. These will be hosted by a Purple Patch coach and broader open only to current Purple Patch athletes so that we can serve Purple Patch athletes to be best prepared. The first of these will be held on March 22nd.
- NEW: Matt Dixon roundtables. Several have asked for these types of sessions. For key events, I will host small group (3-6 people) video roundtables for a set fee. These will be offered to Purple Patch athletes first, then the broader athlete base if there are any spots. It is a chance to spend 60 minutes asking all your questions and receiving race planning directly from me.
- Coach Consults. Of course, we still have the offer for a 1:1 coach consultation to plot your plan.
Our hope is that we can still offer education broadly, but retain the special sauce for Purple Patch athletes. Many more details to come, and in the coming weeks we will outline key events.
Have a super week of training,
Matt
