COACH'S CORNER: June 21st - The Beginning of the End
I hope that you enjoy the spiced up Sunday Special this week -- it is a snapshot of the new cycling studio of the Purple Patch Center in San Francisco. We are 99% complete with the build-out, and are ramping into production over the coming weeks. This may seem only mildly interesting if you are based in Kansas, London, Panama, or any other part of the world outside of the Bay Area, but think again. We will not be opening the center as a performance facility over the coming months, but we will be doing two major things out of the center:
- Producing content
- Delivering athlete services.
The content will include a large boost in our ability to generate meaningful education and live education, in a more organized and professional manner. You guys deserve the best. We will also be ramping up our live coaching offerings, extending the live bike sessions across time zones, refining and improving the strength and conditioning, as well as introducing rejuvenation and self-care sessions across every program. It should be fun.
We also expect to begin hosting athletes in the center. Bike fitting and equipment consultation, sweat testing, lab-based assessments, orthopedic massage, and athletic-training for injury prevention and recuperation. We are currently exploring some small-scale classes, personal training, and other components, but want to be sensitive to the time we are living in.
Stay tuned, and get excited. We are now Purple Patch powered by the Purple Patch Center, and the coaches, athletes, and the whole team should benefit. I just need my personal makeup artist to tag along with me everywhere.
On the training side, we have spent the last months preparing to ramp. A Coronavirus special set of programs allowed the ‘prepare to prepare’ set of training -- and didn’t we do well -- but now we ramp. Whether choosing to prepare for a race (that may even occur) or driving your personal performance forward, with a lens on 2021, it is time. We shift to extended strong intervals, more sporadic very high-intensity training, and an increase of endurance and resilience. All this comes with many people gaming swim access at last. Expect to see some additions in the programming very soon:
- New swim cords sessions -- with new videos
- New Strength program
- A shift in training (via Squad or your coach)
Let’s stay together and pull our socks up. You are going to have me, and the entire Purple Patch team, driving you forward over the coming weeks. Emerge Stronger is the mission, and that means not slipping into fragility. Instead, we want to pull the performance lever and thrive within the chaos. As I said to someone the other day (who was questioning our ability to develop content and build Purple Patch in the middle of a looming recession) “Oh, the recession, we are choosing not to participate in that’. Take the same lens on your performance. Grow, grow, grow. Learn, learn, learn. Work, work, work, Fun, fun, fun.
Cheers
Matt
