Alex Fuller Takes 2nd at Storm the Fort and is Ready to Race IM 70.3 Worlds
Alex Fuller, Squad athlete, is ready to take on IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships tomorrow morning after his amazing showing at Storm the Fort Short earning second overall end of August.
Here's his story:
I’ve done the race three years now - two years ago I got fifth and last year I got fourth. I’ve been following the fast track triathlete plan this year and joined the Squad two months ago. I like how the squad taught me what to do on an easy day and upped my strength game.
At the race, there were about 10 people that I knew would be in the running for the podium including five or six from previous years. The swim was great but I started the bike off on a bad foot with my back wheel rubbing on the brakes and taking a couple of minutes to fix. I bit hard and was able to be seventh overall at the halfway point in the bike and with the energy to move to fifth place by the bike's end. I took the 1st mile of the run way too fast but then settled back to a good pace and slowly passed people one by one including everyone that had previously beat me in prior years. I was surprised when I passed third and then second place and was just three minutes behind first overall. I was glad he beat me by more than two minutes though because that would’ve been very frustrating with the bike mechanical issue. It was a very fun half iron distance race that was very hilly and a great warm-up to this weekend’s world championship. Best of all it has an awesome trophy for the top three which is an actual cannonball!
Best of luck to Alex as he competes tomorrow at IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships! Way to represent.
