Genevieve Blais: A Season of Ups, Downs, and Whiskey to Finish
70.3 Lake Placid
#16 start at half distance done!
Last tri of the season. Not as planned in early 2019 but well accomplished according to knee injury Aug 3rd which brought the challenge of not being able to run until race day. Osteopath, massage, and chiro brought me there. I had target what I call my 2 doubles for my season.
The first double, olympic followed by the next day a sprint. I did the olympic but could not start the sprint next morning due to back pain, spasm. First frustration of the season.
The second double was 1/2 longe distance mid-July and 70.3 Lake Placid, last week-end. July was not good as I did mistake on my fueling on a tough course, hot and moist day with a cut off of 0700 hours. (0830 for a 70.3 series) Pretty tough to get it done. DNF it was with a lot of deception.
So, after analysis of mistakes, nail the basics and focus on the present never had been so true for this one. Revenge it was, review fuel plan and Matt’s refreshing video help on race morning to focus on the present moment. For a reason I still ignore, I was able to run all the 1/2 marathon and every km, I focus on one, only one element of form to bring me to the finish. I repeat the list of form until the finish line, period. Awsome strong strokes on the swim, constant work the bike and shuffle my run looking to move forward. All this came with pain and adversity but cooler day it was to help me to execute my fuel plan. Very happy about this race management. If it was to do it again, I would not change anything on my race day process. Time to recover, rehabilitation and strength this ankle. Unstable left ankle that affected the 2017 and 2019 seasons. Time to do homework again!
Oct 19th, is the Dramathon (1/2 marathon) in Scotland around the scotch distilleries, a fun and destination event to close 2019. The race - Dramathon 2019 - is full since the spring. It fills up very quickly.
