Thank God for Squad. The plan works!
Harvest Moon Long Course 70.3 is in the books. I wanted to provide you all a bit of a race report.
The headline news is that I PRd in all three disciplines. I finished 17 minutes faster overall than I did on almost the same course a year ago (Ironman Boulder 70.3) So that felt great.
But the real story is that I PRd after an extremely stressful two months leading up to the race. My personal and professional life was super busy causing a decrease in desired training load. But I felt empowered to do this by the Squad programming which allowed me to tailor the workouts without skipping altogether. Also, I was reminded constantly through the education section of the website and the podcasts that I shouldn’t beat myself up for simply living the life I have. I did not seek validation from my training but from handling my global life stressors. So in spite of having far fewer training hours, I entered the race feeling energized. I was also in a much better mental frame of mind than I believe I would have been without being a member of the squad.
This race capped a three week series of races, including a 10k which I PRd in by 5 minutes over the previous year. I also did a sprint triathlon a week ago. In that race, I had the fastest bike and run splits I’d ever recorded (albeit on the shortest course I’ve competed on).
So unequivocally a very nice race season for me. Thank you to everyone at Purple Patch for putting all that you do into the Squad. My athletic pursuits have benefited, but more importantly my life as a whole has been impacted in an extremely positive way.
