I actually got to race!
With a literally breathtaking mountain lake swim; 13% grade climbs into bombing downhill hairpin turns; and, like the race website promises, a “challenging high altitude run” – the Huntington Lake Triathlon was a real, live, super fun sprint at 7,000’ elevation in Lakeshore, CA.
After randomly receiving an email for this race on Wednesday, July 22nd, as a member of the Purple Patch Squad I was more than prepared to drive up and hit it on Sunday, July 26th.
Thank you, Purple Patch, for not only ensuring that I be race ready in these uncertain times, but for empowering me to continue to grow and thrive as an athlete and a person. Finishing 4th place overall at this small, yet highly competitive event, was icing on the cake!
I can’t thank you enough, and to all other PP athletes, keep an eye out for races in the foothills!
Your fellow Squaddy,
Dominik Machado
P.S. I was proudly rocking my Purple Patch visor ;)
