Lake Wildwood Sprint Tri
After all of the uncertainty and rescheduling of races. A sprint popped up on my radar just an hour from where I live 2 weeks before the race in Aug 2020. Thanks to joining Squad back right at the start of shelter at home for Covid, I was mostly ready for the race.
The pools in my area were still closed (except those out of my price range) so my total swims in 5 months pre-race were 3 open water swims with my tri club in the 3 weeks leading up to the race. The swim made me the most nervous of all 3 disciplines because of the lack of water time.
Along comes race day and I crush the swim 1st in my division thanks to all of swim band workouts prescribed in the squad program. Its always fun to catch swimmers from the wave in front of you. I also had my best bike of any sprint I've done, and a personal PR final mile split of any sprint tri I've done despite a 12% grade hill in the first 400 meters of the run.
Overall I landed 3rd in my division. Division wise: 1st in the swim, 2nd by 15 seconds on the run, but fell short on the bike. I can't complain, I raced the best race I've ever had for a sprint and had my best bike split as well. I did still get beat on the bike so now I know where I need some focus for this fall. I'm looking forward to some cycling challenges to push myself in new ways and progress.
