Kona Week: Next week we plan to do a full debrief on the big Kona Challenge, but a quick word to say congratulations to all who completed and engaged in it. Simply magical and so much fun to track. Well done all!
Turbulent times call for something special.
I am sure that you noticed our big announcement this week for Performance Reset 2020 - coming to all on Nov 13-15 from San Francisco and accessible from anywhere in the world. We are incredibly excited about this very special event, so wanted to provide a little context for the background on us deciding to take on such a large-scale production.
When Covid-19 truly took us in its grip in late winter, it was an incredibly destabilizing time for all. Athletes lost their compass, leaders and employees had to confront a new way of structuring work, families were suddenly juggling home-schooling and much more. All of these hassles were underscored with an undercurrent of anxiety around health, future, finances and much more. For Kelli, myself and the Purple Patch team, we were locked down and prevented in opening the brand new center. We found ourselves completely reimagining the structure of our athletes' training and the fabric of the business.
No different than all of you, it was tough. But despite this, we found real purpose and energy in the process.
The reason we were quickly energized as a team is that we had a real role to play in this journey - we had something to offer.
We realized that the very aspects of performance that we have highlighted for so many years had never more relevant than in this moment.
We also realized that the traits and characteristics that make up an athletic mindset were exactly the traits required to navigate through these turbulent times - and even thrive in them.
We found ourselves reminding and even educating experienced athletes to draw on these traits - but it was amazing to see so many pull their socks up and leverage the challenge that faced them.
You folks - the Purple Patch community - deserve a tremendous pat on the back for how you have managed and excelled in these times. It hasn’t been easy. It isn’t easy. But we have collectively done very, very well.
As we creep toward the end of the year, uncertainty still looms ahead. There is also a collective fatigue with the whole situation, and many are simply at the end of their tether. The whole Purple Patch team came together and really wanted to do something to help, to inspire, and to create a force of collective energy to empower many to be equipped to not survive, but thrive and move forward towards the year ahead.
This is why we arrived at Performance Reset.
It is, simply put, a perfect time to pause, to reflect on the challenges of 2020 in order to learn. It's also a time to set up a path to high performance in 2021 and beyond. We feel we can really help a broad audience - of athletes and beyond - come together, and develop the mindset, and physical and mental resilience to be ready to shine in 2021 regardless of what it brings.
Great, but why just rely on our own lessons and education?
Purple Patch is connected with a host of some of the top performance specialists in the world. Our gut feeling was that some of these would be really excited to get involved and help - to aim to do some good while navigating this situation.
We took out our rolodex and went through the names, we brainstormed, and we put together our dream team of athletes, experts-in-field, executives, and partners who we truly felt would have something powerful to offer. When we listed out the names of our big whiteboard at the Purple Patch center we laughed. ‘Can you even imagine how powerful it would be if we managed to put together a group like this?’. Well, we decided to try, and got busy making calls.
This wasn’t about just sport, it was about life. Human Performance. Let’s help people. Are you in?
After three days we had our confirmations: of the original names on our dream team list, we secured 100%. All of them. Quickly. This goes to show the spirit of the occasion and times, and the desire to create something special. We have since added a few more to the roster, and even have a few more to come. It is, in honesty, a little crazy.
The greatest challenge is how packed the schedule is, but thank goodness we have the capacity to run a truly interactive event on a fantastic virtual platform that allows breakout sessions, live chat, concurrent activities and so much more. Now: we just need to nail it!
This is where you all come in. We want to do right by our Purple Patch family, and are offering a secret presale for our current athletes. You can access that HERE. We can only do this through 10/16, but would like every Purple Patch athlete in on this! Every session will be recorded and available following the event, so timezones are not an excuse. Beyond this, the way this event becomes really special is to extend the reach to each of our community well beyond Purple Patch - and even well beyond triathlon.
You do not need to be a committed athlete to benefit from this weekend!
We are imagining the weekend as a beneficial experience for anyone looking for inspiration and guidance around life performance. A busy mom, your team at work, someone needing a catalyst to help build health.
This is about wellness, resilience, adaptability and a mindset to overcome adversity.
So please feel free to share this link and invite your friends, co-workers, associates and other athletes. This might be a Purple Patch event, but it isn’t really ‘about’ Purple Patch or athletic performance. It is about life performance.
If you are one of our many business leaders or managers, feel free to reach out. We would be happy to execute a ‘team buy-in’ for your company or group.
But most important - I would like this to act as a personal invitation. We think it is going to be so much fun, and as there is nothing else like it in the performance space, we will be able to chart our own course on this. Are you in?
Remember: one week to register at the crazy Purple Patch athlete only deal. It is then early bird general pricing. Let’s get the ball rolling.
