Summer Sizzler Triathlon - Grand Island, New York

When I woke up Wednesday morning I had no idea that I would be doing a race on Saturday, but by the time I went to bed, I was all signed up and ready to go.
Just as we were coming out of a long winter, I was getting excited about finally being able to ride my bike outside again. But fate intervened intervened in the form of a broken wrist which, until 10 days ago kept me out of the pool and from running outdoors. I finally got the go ahead on those and Wednesday morning the doc cleared me to ride outside, road bumps and all. After two months of fighting with my depression and feeling a bit sorry for myself (sorry Matt, I tried) I had to do something.
The race - a Sprint - was great. The water was warm enough not to need a wetsuit and shallow enough that that the reeds made some sections more of a run than a swim. I surprised myself with a faster than predicted time.
I was probably overly cautious on the first past of the bike, unsure how my wrist would hold up, but was able to get into the big chain ring on the way back with a friendly wind and had a great time, if not a fast time. Until dismount, when my lack of practice kicking out on my cleats showed and I ingloriously hit the ground before I could be my second foot out. Fortunately I was fully stopped and we all had a good laugh about it.
The run was strictly MPF - thank you Purplepatch - and the focus really helped get me through the fatigue.
For all my Sacramento Tri Club buddies, I proudly crossed the finish line in my STC trisuit!
I honestly would not have gotten out the door without Purplepatch and I look forward to being able to fully train again. And thanks to every coach who participates in Office Hours. Love it!
