Ironman 70.3 Shanghai 2019
This was the final race to prepare myself for IM Western Australia (Dec 1) and would have been the first since I joined PP squad in early July. It would have been the perfect test race if not for a bike crash one week before the race. Thankfully, I got away with only bruises, abrasions and scrapes on my right arms and legs. I managed to travel and start the race. Many thanks to my bike mechanic too for getting the bike back to shape one night before I flew.
Overall, I was happy with my result. I was not pushing for a PB and the goal of this race was to experiment with everything I have learnt, especially on maintaining good form, in the squad program and education hub thus far. My big goal is still my first full IM in December. I also have to make adjustment to my race plan due to not being in optimal physical condition. Swimming and riding were done at nice steady rhythmic pace, although holding the aero position with a bruised right elbow was probably the most painful. The highlight of this race was the beautiful run course and my 3-min PB run split in a 70.3 event. The strength built through the PP program is probably a major reason for a strong run finish.
I have recovered after a week and ready to train for the final race prep phase for my first full IM!
