2019 Cozumel Race Report (Executive Summary)

Not my best day but finished standing up, barely. The swim went better than expected with a favorable current (52 min). Flat tire on the bike. Had the wrong wrench so waited ~ 45 m for the roving mechanic. GI issues on the run again. This time I think it was the fructose in Gatorade (diluted with half water).

    Well, I'm glad the swim went well for you! The rest of your race does sound like you had a fair share of hurdles to jump. Waiting 45 minutes for a mechanic is clearly a lesson in patience. And then GI issues? Oh, so tough.

    But, you finished. And finished standing. I'm guessing that while it was tough in many ways, you maybe (just maybe) still enjoyed the day. Hopefully that 45 minute wait was with an ocean view. Or at least a gentle tropical breeze. 

    This is a crazy sport. And Race Day rarely goes as planned. It's races like this where I hope we all can rise to the occasion and be grateful for the ability to simply show up and start. And finish; despite the challenges. 

    Keep on going George! And thanks for sharing.

    Congrats, George. The epitome of IRONMAN. Gumption. No doubt waiting 45 min in the heat also threw a "wrench" into your nutrition plan. Way to recover and gut it out - literally.
