Katy Half Marathon - tune up race ahead of marathon
First race of the season !!! Katy Half Marathon. Tune up race ahead of The Woodlands (TX) marathon in a month, which I'm preparing for with the PP base program (blended w/ Pfitzinger's Advanced Marathoning plan ; an experiment ...).
It’s always nice to go into a race with zero expectations and no feel whatsoever for what is possible and what not. I didn’t chase any goal pace or heart rate zone. "Focus on the process not the outcome!"
1 mile before the finish line I looked at my watch and realized I could actually hit 1h30m ... which is a nice psychological target ... Still far removed from my personal best of 1h24m 4 years ago... but decent as a touchpoint.
So ... I dashed off for a last kamikaze push ... and ended up at 1 hour 30 minutes and 30 seconds. Which OBVIOUSLY rounds to 1h30m 🙂. And ... placed 3rd in my AG! (rather small local race)
A good touchpoint for my marathon A race next month. If I want to qualify for Boston again, I should have been a bit quicker today, but I’m not hopelessly off ... and I realize that I’m in quite a ramp up coming out of a subdued post race season period. Still hopeful I can make it !!!
Love me some good racing !

Nicolas, Amazing! 3rd in AG (even with a smaller field) is always a huge boost to confidence and a nice feeling walking away from a day well executed. We have no doubt that with this mindset and commitment you will do wonderful things in the sport. Boston is an incredible race (one I hope to qualify for again someday - nothing like it!) and we hope you carry the confidence from this race, paired with a calm, focused mindset into The Woodlands Marathon next month.
Let us know how it all pans out! Also, be on the lookout soon - our team is hard at work on a marathon prep plan for our Purple Patch athletes. Something to keep in mind for future races.
Also, do you happen to have picture of you at the race?
Cheers,
Liz and the PP team
