Adapt - Push - Uncomfortably Strong
Desert Triathlon took place in La Quinta, CA, just outside of Palm Springs. Weather was sunny & warm but really windy during the swim. A calm lake churned out 1 foot waves once the wind picked up. This also sent the buoys way off course! We followed what the course should be and I realized I had to adapt. Push through the waves and even though it was challenging, I felt comfortable & strong from all the paddle work we have been doing.
Once on the bike, I wanted to push hard and set a new PB but the wind held me from that. Still, I did release the "gov'nor" and was super comfortable dropping the cadence into the wind and utilized all the SE work that is a pain... it pays off!
After a quick transition, I settled into a smooth strong rhythm within the first mile and throughout the 1st loop. The 2nd loop, it was on as I dialed up the effort which was uncomfortable and I ended up having a negative-split for the 10k! One thing I tell myself near the end of a race, "push hard because you have nothing else to do today."
Adapt - Push - Uncomfortably Strong... got me a 4th place finish in my AG and I felt very satisfied with my performance. Time aside the process was the main goal as this was a great way to start off the season! Thanks PPF...Onward & Upward

Enrique, this photo is incredible! Thank you for that as well as a great Race Report.
This sounds like an exceptional day for you. If there were no challenges on Race Day outside of the known pain it just wouldn't be quite as memorable. This makes for much better story telling. Tall waves! Big headwinds! Negative Run Split! Thank goodness you put the work in with the paddles and low rpm riding. Nice job!
Yes, it sure is about the process isn't it? Not only on Race Day, but in the daily work you clearly put in to be able to Release that Gov'nor.
Good luck with the rest of your season. You are off to a great start. As always, thank you for trusting Purple Patch with the journey.
